World Water Day 2011 in Burkina Faso: Images of the 6 Km march
To celebrate World Water Day 2011 in Burkina Faso, the WASH Coalition initiated a "6 Km march for water". National sector actors such as the African Centre for water and Sanitation (CREPA) and beneficiaries participated during the march. CREPA rewarded participants with free T-shirts. The end destination was the "Place of the Nation" where representatives of the disabled, women, and children delivered messages to the Minister of the Water Department.
WASHCost research meeting participants visited Komsilga research site / 2011
WASHCost research meeting participants got imbued with the field reality in the rural commune of Komsilga in February 2011.
After the official closure of the WASHCost, Zakari and Pascal guided volunteers to the commune of Komsilga which is actually one of WASHCost Burkina Faso research sites. The participants to that visit were Charles Bachelor, Peter Burr, Arjen Naafs, and Peter McIntyre. The object of this visit was to introduce foreign WASHCost participants to a part of the field reality in Burkina Faso.

WASHCost Burkina Faso has shared its expertise during a meeting on WASH project management by communes/municipalities.
Communities opt for traditional water sources
In Ghana and Burkina Faso some rural families avoid official water supplies in favour of traditional and free sources. In Ghana this may be because the informal sources are closer to home. In Burkina Faso some low income families seek out wells where there is no supervisor to collect payments.

Burkina and Ghana: sharing water and approaches
Burkina Faso and Ghana are the two closest countries in the WASHCost project. Not only are they neighbours, they also share some water basins and rivers such as the Black and White Voltas. Now the countries have pledged to work together in their methodology and approaches to collect data.

Burkina Faso and Ghana, neighbouring countries in the WASHCost project, have pledged to work closely together to develop methodologies to tease out some of the vital research issues they are investigating.
