First learning alliance meeting in Burkina Faso, 2009

Updated - Wednesday 27 October 2010

In January 2009, the WASHCost project in Burkina Faso hosted a training workshop for the LA members. The workshop was based around 'The strategic and participative planning for improved water governance'. It falls under the action plan intended to contribute to build the capacities of the learning alliance members of the WASHCost project. This workshop was the first in 2009 and gathered about twenty actors from national and international water NGOs, associations, and service providers, most of which came from national, intermediate and local levels. The facilitation was partly assured by the project partners from the IRC who have taken part in the EMPOWERS project (M. Patrick Moriarty and Mrs Christelle Pezon) and the WASHCost project coordinator in Burkina Faso (M. Cyrille Amegnran) and a representative of Water Aid, an NGO of Burkina Faso. The activities comprised two sessions all dealing with the experiences in strategic and participative water governance from the EMPOWERS project and from Burkina Faso experiences in planning.

This agenda of learning and sharing is becoming one of the facilitation means of the LA in Burkina Faso. During the two days meeting, the participants appreciated the exchanges, especially the introduction of local experiences of water governance which received extra attention.
The next meeting in the agenda will be in the second term of the year and it was agreed that the theme will be about financing.
