The 6th RWSN Forum in Kampala, Uganda convened more than 450 participants from around the globe. Attendees took in rich discussions regarding issues that impact today’s rural water supply. WASHCost contributed to international WASH discussions by presenting several publications.

James Batchelor of the WASHCost team uses spatial analysis completed over the past year on 20 villages in Andhra Paradesh to demonstrate the effectiveness of mapping as a way of analysing and understanding factors that influence life-cycle costs and WASH service levels.
Refocusing the monitoring approach at the First Consultation on developing post-2015 monitoring indicators (3-5 May 2011, Berlin, Germany)

Ton Schouten, Director of IRC’s Triple-S initiative presented the keynote paper at the First Consultation on Developing post-2015 Indicators for Monitoring Drinking-Water and Sanitation in Berlin, held during 3-5 May and organised by WHO and UNICEF. As the first ever consultation regarding post-2015 monitoring of water and sanitation, the event was well-linked to IRC’s committed focus on advocating for “sustainable services at scale”. Amongst a group of 60 high level professionals in the sector were representatives from UN organisations, the Banks, and international networks and knowledge centres. IRC’s attendance and central participation at the event indicated our strong role as a thought leader on service levels and pro-poor and country led approaches.
